The concept of inertia has always been an interesting one to me. Most often I’ve experienced it as either being on a roll” or “feeling stuck.” Scientists describe inertia as the natural tendency of an object to resist any change in its present state of motion or rest, unless acted upon by an outside force. Since energy healing includes imagery and metaphors, I often use an analogy that thoughts and emotions are like “objects” that manifest as energy in your body (i.e. the tightening in your stomach when you’re nervous or the swelling in your chest when you’re happy).
Certain habits of thinking or feeling may create patterns of stillness or flow in our energy fields or chakras. These patterns can show up as states of being that can begin to feel familiar or “normal” in our lives. Depression, elation, fatigue or over-activity are some examples. We might have an awareness of a pattern and want to change it but have difficulty doing so. It’s helpful to remember that energy—whether at rest or in motion—is neither good nor bad. We can let go of any judgement about it. In the analogy of inertia, it’s natural for patterns to develop and to need some help to shift them.
With that in mind, there are several practices based on the sacred geometry of the spiral that can either build momentum when feeling sluggish or reign in our energy when feeling scattered. Spirals expand and open us to a higher level of consciousness when moving outward, or they can be used to focus and center our thoughts when moving inward. Drawing a spiral shape or walking a labyrinth are two examples. In the Twin Cities area of Minnesota, we are blessed to have many labyrinths, including the Millennium Garden. Another way to engage with the wisdom of this sacred geometry is during an energy healing session where you can experience and learn a spiral meditation for shifting your energy.
